The Hillbilly Cat

The northern shore of Cromarty Firth, roughly from Dingwall to Alness, was once known as ‘Donald’s Land.’ This ten-mile stretch was named after the formidable clan chief Donald Munro who, as historic legend has it, came from Ireland in the eleventh century to help one of the Scots’ most enduring kings, Malcolm II to fight the Danes. The Munro motto is ‘Dread God’ and their crest is a rather angry looking eagle, with its wings flapping and tongue extended. Famous for their inter clan warfare with the Mackintoshes, MacKenzies and MacDonalds, much is known of the Munro’s battles, cattle raids, victories and losses, but what of their music?
